Footwear and Safety Guide for Industrial Workers

When working in an environment that has risks, proper shoes must be worn to increase productivity, efficiency, and safety. Because different industrial facilities have unique hazards, specific kinds of shoes must be worn based on the elements that are found throughout a work space.

Impact-Resistant Footwear

If you’re pursuing a job in an industry that involves heavy lifting, you’ll need to invest in a pair of shoes that have strong toe caps. The caps that are equipped in impact-resistant shoes are usually made out of a nonmetallic or steel material.

Most companies that sell safety footwear with caps have strict standards. In most cases, a supplier won’t stock any boots or shoes that don’t exceed the Class 75 standard. This standard determines how well a shoe can withstand an 50-pound object that’s drop 18 inches above a steel cap.

Metatarsel Shoes

Metatarsel footwear is designed for workers who drive forklifts in a warehouse. These shoes also have a protective material that prevents toe injuries after heavy objects are dropped. Because metarasel shoes are designed for aggressive tasks, every internal guard is dense. As a result, metarasel shoes are more bulkier than impact-resistant footwear.

Damage-Resistant Shoes

Puncture-resistant shoes are made strategically so that they meet ANSI standards. These standards are strict and help shoe designers reduce puncture wounds in work environments. Some damage-resistant shoes are also constructed with a reinforced sole that’s made of metal. However, footwear that’s designed this way should never be used in areas where electricity is conducted.

Voltage-Resistant Shoes

You must wear electrical-hazard shoes if you’re going to work around electricity in an industrial plant. This footwear will keep you protected because the soles can successfully block 600 volts. While wearing these shoes, always avoid areas where water is found. If voltage-resistant shoes are soaked, the insulating properties won’t be effective.

Although shoes can boost safety dramatically, other steps must be taken whenever vital tasks are tackled in power plant. In this situation, you must ensure that the facility has a strong insulation accessory, such as a ceramic fiber module.
